Mechanical Rubber offers flame-resistant silicones for aerospace | Rubber News

WARWICK, N.Y.—In response to market demand in aerospace and defense, Mechanical Rubber is adding flame-resistant silicones to its portfolio.

The company recently completed tests on a variety of silicone materials, and a solid silicone compound and a closed-cell silicone sponge have passed regulatory thresholds.

Tests included a 45-degree burn test; vertical flammability test; and horizontal flammability test.

"Title 14 ... is an airworthiness standard by the Federal Aviation Administration featuring over 1,800 regulations covering transport aircraft, like jets and propeller planes," said Cedric Glasper, president and CEO. "As an approved manufacturer for several major aerospace and defense companies, Mechanical Rubber is consistently striving to ensure that our materials meet the most rigorous and stringent requirements."

The company said it is in the process of testing other materials for similar applications.
